Objective : This review aimed to synthesize findings from clinical studies examining the effects of balneotherapy on stress-related symptoms. Methods : A systematic search was performed without restrictions on publication date or language. Search terms related to mental health, balneotherapy were used. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effects of balneotherapy on stress. We extracted participant characteristics, intervention details, outcome measures, and adverse events. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Results : Finally included 3 studies encompassed participants experiencing stress, healthy adults, and subhealthy people. Interventions varied but generally involved head-out immersion in mineral or geothermal water. Outcomes measured stress symptoms, fatigue, mood state, health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Geothermal water bathing reduced stress symptoms and fatigue compared to control groups. Immersion bathing was associated with improved HRQOL and mood states (POMS scores) in healthy adults. The risk of bias was generally high. Conclusion : Our results suggest that balneotherapy offers beneficial effects on psychological well-being, including measurable improvements in stress levels, fatigue, mood, and sleep quality. However, further standardized and large-scale research is needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.
