Abstract

Learning engagement has been mainly studied in classroom-based education. However, as the introduction of e-learning has increased in recent years, engagement in learning has begun to attract attention in order to observe learners' attitudes and activities in online environment. In this study, we tried to derive the strategic plan of e-learning operation by exploring the leading factors of learning engagement in the e-learning environment and identifying the influence relationship between learning engagement and learning effect. To do this, self-administered questionnaires were conducted for the customer center workers in Gwangju where e-learning was introduced, and AMOS 21.0 was used to test the structural relationships among the variables. As a result, general self-efficacy, which is a learner's characteristic, and interactivity, which is a system characteristic, both positively influenced engagement in agentic and cognitive learning. And other variables were partially influenced. Among the types of learning engagement, cognitive engagement was identified as a predictor of learning satisfaction and learning transfer, and agentic engagement was confirmed only as a predictor of learning satisfaction. The path analysis of the whole model was significant, indicating indirect effects of learning engagement. In other words, learning engagement should be preceded in order to improve the learning effect of e-learning for company workers. Especially, in order to promote learning engagement, learning and working environment should provide various success experiences to individual, and system environment should be considered important for interactivity to express and exchange opinions.
