중소기업 최고경영자의 성별에 따른 컨설팅 필요성에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 우리나라 중소기업들에 대한 컨설팅이 기업 성과에 미치는 효과를 살펴보고 컨설팅 제공자의 유형에 따라서 기업 성과가 차이를 보이는지, 나아가 이러한 측면들이 최고경영자의 성별과 관계가 있는지를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 업종, 기업형태, 설립 후 경과연수, 매출액, 종업원 수 등 기업의 일반적 특성들은 업종을 제외하고는 최고경영자의 성별과 통계적으로 유의한 관계를 보이고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 기존의 연구결과들과 부분적으로 배치되는 것이다. 또한 컨설팅 활용 및 효과측면에서도 성별차이가 발견되었다. 즉, 여성 기업들은 남성 기업에 비하여 적극적인 정보탐색 및 처리 행태를 보이며, 컨설팅 효과에 있어서도 긍정적인 평가를 내리고 비교적 단기간에 컨설팅 결과를 실행에 옮기고 있었다. 이러한 결과들은 남성과 여성의 정보처리 패턴 차이와 자아개념의 차이 및 자기관리 초점(self-regulative focus)상의 차이, 대상에 대한 해석상의 차이 등으로 설명될 수 있을 것이다. 하지만 이러한 해석에는 대안적 설명도 가능하다. 예를 들면 본 설문대상 여성 기업들은 기업형태와 설립 후 경과연수, 연간매출액, 종업원 수 등에서 남성 기업과 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이고 있으므로, 이러한 요인들이 컨설팅을 받는데 영향을 미칠 수도 있다. 따라서 이러한 측면에 대한 심층적인 후속연구가 필요하다. 이러한 연구결과에 따른 연구의 시사점은 다음과 같다. 우선 정부나 대학교, 전문기관 등 컨설팅 제공 부문에서의 시사점으로서, 기업 특성 및 컨설팅의 활용/효과 등에서 남성 기업과 여성 기업은 차이를 보이므로 접근방법을 달리 해야 한다는 것이다. 다음으로는 컨설팅을 받는 기업에서의 시사점으로서, 남녀 기업 간에는 성별차이 내지는 효과가 존재하므로 이를 이해하여 부족한 점을 보완하는 방향으로 기업 경영에 대한 의사결정을 내려야 효율적인 경영을 할 수 있을 것이다. 국내, 외적으로 선행 연구가 없는 상태에서 연구모형을 설계하고 기업들 간에 최고경영자의 성별과 기업특성 변수, 컨설팅 활용 및 효과 등에 대하여 비교분석한 것은 초기의 탐색적 연구로서 학문적으로나 실무적으로 의미가 있다고 하겠다.

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the characteristics of firms, consulting implementations and effects, and consulting needs of small business owned women and men. 121 women business owners were drawn at random from the membership directory of KWEA (Korea WOMEN Entrepreneurs Association), and 175 samples of men business owners were drawn from the small business which are located at metropolitan area. This paper analyzed the differences in needs of business owned women or men in korea for consulting assistance. As a result, we found some statistically significant differences in management characteristics, and business consulting needs between the small businesses owned women and men. Some guidelines for practicing small business as a result of this would include; first of all, it is important to identify the business consulting approach in gender perspectives; secondly, business owners should be developed for positive impacts of effective consulting programs according to these gender difference effects.
