초록

The present study highlights the clarification of Nemipterus furcosus through an extensive methodological framework, which integrates both morphological evaluation and DNA barcoding strategies. Specimens were collected in October 2019, with a total of 30 individuals subjected to analysis. Morphometric measurements were conducted via systematic comparisons of 12 landmarks against established references within the Nemipterus genus. DNA barcoding, utilizing the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene, was employed to validate the findings derived from morphological assessments by aligning the acquired sequences with those cataloged in the GenBank database. The morphological evaluation indicated that the specimens exhibited all the diagnostic traits characteristic of N. furcosus , particularly in terms of body morphology, fin architecture, and pigmentation. This observation was further substantiated by genetic analysis, which demonstrated a 99% congruence with reference sequences available in GenBank (LC484881.1). This integrative approach effectively addressed challenges associated with overlapping morphological characteristics and the potential degradation of specimens sourced from commercial markets. These findings underscore the critical importance of employing morphological methodologies in conjunction with molecular techniques to achieve more accurate and dependable identification of fish species. Such a dual-faceted approach provides a robust framework for the advancement of sustainable fisheries management principles, primarily by improving precision in stock evaluations, decreasing instances of misidentification, and bolstering evidence-based conservation initiatives. Furthermore, the study underscores the significance of DNA barcoding in the realm of biodiversity conservation, as it is instrumental in systematically monitoring Nemipterus populations and contributing to the sustainable stewardship of Indonesia’s diverse marine ecosystems.
