Abstract

This paper classified space appearing repeatedly in Tao Yuanming’s literature as way, home, and grave, and then explored the symbolic meaning, and It focuses on the psychological and identity problems in Tao Yuanming’s journey through life. ‘On the road’ is a combined space of the temporality of political events that happened and the spatiality of public place. Killing and political intrigue happens space amplifies the threat of death to Tao Yuanming. His line on the road will also come from social situations that Confucian ideology works. Place attachment that appears at the Tao Yuanming’s poetry is just ‘home’. But ironically, memories and experiences for the home Tao Yuanming return to this house by force while still going to have to find the ego, also he makes it difficult to self-realization in public areas to feel the negative emotions to interpret and accept the public service in the public area. ‘Grave’ is shaped by Tao Yuanming to implement ‘Memento mori’ as a poetic form. Tao Yuanming imagine yourself as far into the grave hole, pull death in the life and implement a memento mori. Such death experience is by looking at the reasons to die the moment to take a posture of self-care.
