Female artists during the period alsoestablished 詩社 and formed a sense of fellowship, but along the process, the idea of ‘女子無才是德’ (It is a virtue for a woman to lack talents)often became obstacles for many of the female artists. Female characters in Dream of the Red Chamber also form theirown poetry club and reveal their artistic talents through writing poetry. However, the imagery of ‘flower’ in their poems and activitiesforeshadows their tragic fate and short life in accordance withthe socialatmosphere of not favoring women to be gifted. This is one mainreasonwhy this novel is regarded as a successful symbol of ‘The Culture ofTalented Women’ for wonderfully reproducing the feminine culture of the early-Ming and late-Qing period.
