초록

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is stimulation of innervated muscle to restore muscle function. NMES isused for improvement of swallowing function on dysphagia. NMES have various methods of electrodes attachment accordingto the purpose of application, and difference in intensity, duration, and the grade of protocol according to thepatient's diagnosis and characters. Application with knowing the characteristics, steps of application, and precautions ofNMES will have positive effects on improvement of swallowing function on dysphagia. (JKDS 2011;1:60-66)
