Abstract
》Stroke places a tremendous burden on health resources throughout the world, and stroke is the most common cause of death in Korea. In the present study, the effects of a combination of modified speed-dependent treadmill training and body weight support on the cardiorespiratory functions of ambulatory hemiparetic stroke patients were investigated. Ambulatory hemiparetic stroke patients in Seoul were examined over a period of 12 weeks (n = 28) in a randomized, repeated-measure pilot study. Participants were divided into two group: the modified speed-dependent treadmill training (MSTT) group, and the modified speed-dependent treadmill training plus body weight support (MSTT+BWS) group. 13 subjects were enrolled in the MSTT group and 15 subjects in the MSTT+BWS group. Treatment outcome assessments were made based on the cardiorespiratory tests. After 12 weeks of MSTT+BWS or MSTT 3 times/week, most of the subjects who participated in MSTT+BWS and MSTT showed significant enhancements in most of the parameters examined.
