Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of fine motor control in adolescent with developmental coordination disorder. Preliminary study is conducted to determine the difference from the typically developing group using a finger tapping task. The primary screening test (DCDQ-K, BOTMP-2 Short Form) was conducted to select the subjects of the study. 10 middle school students with developmental coordination disorder and 10 typically developing middle school students with developmental coordination were selected as subjects. Three variables (Peak Force, Contact Interval, and Non-contact Interval) were measured by presenting Force maintained of the finger tapping tasks to examine the characteristics of the subject's fine motor control. The measured data were independently t-tested using the SPSS 23.0 program, and the average value of the typically developing group was calculated to find out how much the force control ability and timing control ability of individual subjects with developmental coordination disorder differ from the typically developing group. The z-score was calculated and analyzed for comparison. As a result of the study, there are significant differences in the consistency of Peak Force (3, 4, 5) (t=-2.257, p=.037) and the consistency of Contact Interval 5 (t=-2.608, p=.018). In addition, as a result of comparative analysis by calculating the z-score, it is confirmed that the fine motor control characteristics are diverse within the developmental coordination disorder group. Therefore, through the results of this study, it is confirmed that adolescent with developmental coordination disorder has difficulties in performing force control tasks and timing tasks, and as a result of checking through z-score, it is confirmed that their fine motor control characteristics are individualized. Therefore, it is necessary to confirm more detailed information in developing and applying the screening process and intervention method.
