Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 12weeks' wheel-chair treadmill training on the improvement of aerobic and cardiopulmonary capacity in spinal cord injury patients. 7 subjects with spinal cord injury participated in this study. They performed wheel-chair treadmill exercise 2times per week for 12weeks. Using arm ergometer, Exercise tolerance tests were assessed by measuring aerobic kinetic capacity and cardiopulmonary ability. The data was analyzed by using SPSS WIN Ver.14.0 and paired t-test(p<.05). Significantly low level of VO2, EE, RQ, HR at the same submaximal ergometer load have been found after 12weeks of wheel-chair treadmill training. The maximum endurance time showed a significant increase after wheel-chair treadmill training. In conclusion, 12 weeks of wheel-chair treadmill training improve aerobic and cardiopulmonary capacity in the patients with spinal cord injury. These results suggest that wheel-chair treadmill exercise might give the positive effects on improvement of cardiorespiratory fitness and prevention from various disease associated with cardiovascular disease.
