여성 시각장애인의 스포츠 참여 및 지속 제약 요인 탐색: 근거이론을 중심으로

본 연구는 여성 시각장애인이 스포츠에 참여하고 스포츠를 지속하는 과정에서 겪는 경험과 제약 요인을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 연구자는 사회체육 또는 직업 체육인으로서 스포츠 활동에 참여한 경험이 있거나 현재 참여하고 있는 성인 여성 여성 시각장애인 8명을 모집하였고, 초기 스포츠 참여 단계에서부터 참여 유지, 중단에 이르는 일련의 과정에서 발생하는 심리적, 사회적 양상에 대한 질적 자료를 개인 또는 소집단 심층 면담을 통해 수집하였다. 수집한 면담 자료는 Strauss와 Corbin (1997)의 근거이론 접근법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 전사 자료를 개방 코딩을 통하여 주제와 관련된 개념을 선별한 다음 유사한 개념들을 결합하여 상위 범주와 하위 범주로 도출하였다. 최종적으로 도출된 상위 범주는 총 7개, 하위 범주는 총 17개, 개념은 총 35개로 나타났고, 구체적으로 1) 지역사회 스포츠 자원 접근 어려움, 2) 여성 시각장애인에 대한 사회적 장벽 경험, 3) 스포츠 참여의 어려움 및 중단, 4) 스포츠 참여를 위해 복합적인 요인 고려 필요, 5) 현실 수용 또는 개인 차원의 문제해결, 6) 여성 시각장애인 간의 스포츠 참여 및 중단, 7) 시각장애 여성의 스포츠 환경 개선에 대한 옹호로 범주화되었다. 이를 토대로 우리나라 여성 시각장애인이 스포츠 참여에 있어서 직면하는 주요 도전과 사회적 양상, 그리고 이들이 경험하는 심리적, 사회적 요인을 바탕으로 패러다임 모형을 구축하였다. 연구 결과를 토대로 여성 시각장애인의 동등한 스포츠 참여를 위한 특수체육 분야의 방안을 제언하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and constraints faced by women with visual impairments in sports participation. The researchers recruited eight adult women with blindness or low vision who were currently participating in sports, either as leisure athletes or professional players. Qualitative data were collected through individual and small group in-depth interviews, utilizing semi-structured interview questions. The data were analyzed using open coding to identify concepts relevant to the research topic. These concepts were then grouped into seven primary themes along with seventeen sub themes, and thirty-five concepts, based a grounded theory approach. The primary themes included: 1) difficulties in accessing community sport resources, 2) experiences of social barriers for women with visual impairments, 3) challenges and discontinuation of sport participation, 4) the need to consider multiple factors for sport participation, 5) acceptance of reality or personal problem-solving, 6) sport participation and discontinuation, and 7) advocacy for improving the sports environment for women with visual impairments. The researchers constructed a paradigm model that focused on the main challenges and social aspects encountered by females with visual impairments in sports, as well as the psychological and social factors involved. Based on the identified themes and paradigm model, the researchers suggested implications for promoting equitable sports participation among women with visual impairments.
