Abstract

There is a growing tendency to utilize digital pen as an input device for daily usage of personal computing device such as tablet PC, and smartphone. While some vendors have already released new products with advanced pen, others still don’t adopt except basic touchscreen support. It is assumed that evaluations are divided between companies concerned with the digital effects on the smart device consumption. Whether partial function benefits the whole digital device or not is somewhat complicated for new digital development. As a solution, researchers conduct a survey and suggest a model that consists of retention intent and consumer experience. By literature review, we choose product experience and attachment as the antecedents of consumer intention and specified the subjective human-product experience into identity, craft, and materiality of experiences. Researchers surveyed domestic smartphone consumers, specifically for their current smartphone experience, attachment, forward intention intent, and the degree of current digital pen use. According to multi-group analysis in the structured equation model, it is assumed that the active pen user group has bigger attachment and intention intent and the effect from attachment to intent is also stronger than that of a low pen user group. It is because, in the active group, the negative effect of craft experience to attachment decreases, meanwhile the positive experience to intention intent increases. Under the empirical test result, we can conclude that, ceteris paribus, digital pen enables smartphone users to have more retention intent of their own devices.
