초록
This article analyses two most prominent literary debates initiated by famous(notorious) young writer, Han Han. These debates show how a profound change is taking place in contemporary Chinese literary field. First, the Han-Bai debate. In 2006, a famous literary critic, Bai Ye posted a blog, in which he insisted that the literary works of ‘80hou' are still immature. After reading this, Han posted a blog which included lots of coarse language, and insisted that literature belongs to everyone, that the so-called literary professionals such as Bai had no right to judge other people's literary achievements. Second, the attack on the literary ‘Masters'. In an conversation held by a TV broadcast, he criticised the writing skills of three literary masters of modern China, Mao Dun, Ba Jin, and Bing Xin. Lots of people reacted, and Han reacted back, saying he had the right to freely express his own view on literature. These two debates both show the collision between the traditional literary power and the newer, more democratic one. The fast growth of internet, and the marketizing of literature made literature more open to the public. Like it or not, we have to give this change a cool-headed assessment.
