초록
The Laws of Eshnunna are codified in c. 1800 BC, the first in Akkadian language in Mesopotamia. They are the links between Sumerian laws of Uru-Inimgina, Ur-Nammu, Lipit-Ishtar, and Akkadian Law of Hammurabi. The laws tried to stabilize prices of commodities, keeping commercial morality to keep contracts faithfully in Mesopotamia. They also tried to protect interests of children and the underprivileged in ancient Mesopotamia. They include provisions on fidelity of marital relationship, damage payments for bodily injuries, legal justice, and compensation to injuries by animals, which depict elements of morality in Mesopotamian contexts. These clauses of Eshnunna laws were developed partially from Sumerian legal tradition, showing legal morality and legal civility. They were further developed in the Laws of Hammurabi in wider perspectives. The issues of morality of the laws of Eshnunna are meaningful for common good and values.
