Abstract

Industry structure where machinery and technology are combined, is associated with mass production, mass consumption, and large amounts of waste, and has been a major factor in a number of environmental problems today. This awareness of the environmental pollution has led to a variety of related research for eco-friendly solutions in many parts of society, and make a study in concept 'sustainable design,' how humans and the environment can coexist. And this trend is actively at work in the fashion industry. In this study, the sustainability of leather and it threat to the environment in the machining process is analyzed because of study of the material is especially important. Leather destroys the environment due to the large amount of chemicals used in the machining process, of course, is a threat to human health. Nevertheless, the study of the potential as sustainable material of leather is required because of leather’s excellent durability, luxurious texture, soft touch and its significant share of the fashion industry. In this study the researcher is looking at the sustainable use of leather cases, first, the use of vegetable leather with vegetable tannin. Second, the possibility of a further material of the leather with the leather to be disposed of after its use to be reworked. Finally, third, in combination with hand-made manner divided into a utilization method such as scraps of leather three perspectives could be seen. And this showed the possibility of leather as sustainable material.
