현대 패션에 영향을 끼친 퍼포먼스 아티스트 작품의 페르소나 연구
A Study on the Personas in Artworks of Performance Artist having influence on contemporary Fashion

본 연구는 현대 패션에 영향을 끼치고 있는 퍼포먼스 아티스트들의 페르소나를 분석하는데 그 목적을 두었으며,연구 방법은 국내외 이론서와 관련 논문을 토대로 한 이론적 고찰과 패션 컬렉션, 패션 전문지, 인터넷 사진 자료를 기반으로 한 사례 분석을 수행하였다. 연구 범위는 패션 매체 속에서 조명된 퍼포먼스 아티스트 리 보워리, 찰리 르 민두, 바트 헤스, 닉 캐이브, 바네사 비크로프트, 헨릭 빕스코브의 작품을 중심으로 하였다. 분석 결과로는 네 가지 페르소나의 특성이 나타났으며, 구체적인 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 생물적, 사회적 역할의 주체성 혹은 도구적, 암시적 역할의 비주체성을 내포한 페르소나이다. 주체성을 지닌 페르소나는 나체의 바디, 바디컨셔스 룩을 통해 생물학적인 몸, 음란한 몸, 정치적·인종적 쟁점, 강력한 성적 지배자, 양성적 신체를 나타내며, 비주체성을 지닌 페르소나는 사물에 부속화되어 메시지를 보완하는 것으로 나타난다. 둘째, 기형적 왜곡을통한 표준화에 저항하는 페르소나는 피부변형이나 왜곡된 신체의 표현을 통해 기존의 표준화된 신체에 대한 의문과 개별화된 신체가 지닌 새로움, 그리고 미래 기술로 인한 하이퍼휴먼에 대한 기대 등을 반영하였다. 셋째,동물 형상을 접목한 신화적 판타지는 동물의 머리, 날개, 뿔, 다리 등은 동물이 갖고 있는 기관의 일부를 통해민속적 감성과 신화, 유전학, 생체학 등과 같은 시대적 환경을 반영하였다. 넷째, 모호함을 통한 자유로운 상상과 유희는 자아 인식, 주체적인 정체성을 본능과 흥미로운 것에서 찾으며, 추상적이거나 무생물인 사물 등을 머리 혹은 얼굴에 대입하여 경험해보지 못한 것에 대한 강한 호기심을 유도하였다. 이상과 같이 현대 패션에 영향을 끼치고 있는 여러 퍼포먼스 아티스트들의 작품들은 패션 디자인의 다양한 미적 취향과 특징들을 해석하는데도 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study is to analyze diverse personas in performance artworks who have great influence oncontemporary fashion. The method of study is to analyze artworks of Leigh Bowery, Charlie leMindu, Bart Hess, Nick Cave, Vanessa Beecroft and Henrik Vibscov having an impact on fashion. The results are as follows. The Characteristics of personas in performance artworks arecategorized as four different types, such as a biological or a sociological person who has acentral role or an instrumental or an implicit person who has a minor role. A persona showing aresistance to standardization using freakish distortion, utilizes a type of mythical fantasy by ananimal form, and the imagination or fun by ambiguity to make its point. First, the type of acentral role as biological or sociological person shows a biological body, an obscene body,political issue, radical issue, powerful dominatrix and an androgynous body by nude and bodyconscious look. The type of a minor role as instrumental or implicit person shows that humanbody makes up for the main message. Second, the type of resistance to standardization usingfreakish distortion shows a new aesthetic desire and an expectation of a hyper human by skin orbody modification. Third, the type of a mythical fantasy of half man and half beast shows a spiritof the age by an ethnic sensibility, mythology, genetics and somatology. Fourth, the type ofimagination or fun by blurring shows a curiosity of human being by fusion between a human andan abstract object, between a human and an inanimate object. In conclusion, performanceartworks should be a help to understand diverse aesthetics tastes and characteristics in fashion.
