Abstract

The globalization of Korean pop culture is realized in the world's cultural world through the “Korean Wave”. However, the globalization of “K-Art,” which can highlight the Korean art world, still lacks significant results. The purpose of this study is to re-emphasize and develop Korean contemporary art contents in response to contemporary aesthetic and digital technology environments in the trajectory of Korean art history for globalization and balanced development of Korean contemporary art. To this end, This paper focused on the growth of “monochromatic painting” which is valuable as a content unique to Korean art, and examined the possibility of globalization of K-Art by looking at the historical, contemporary and future values of monochromatic painting. As the first research method This paper considered the collective individual activities and the historical value of 'monochromatic painting', which formed its own identity by using the unique sentiments of Korean culture and the spirit of Asian classics in the 1970s and 1980s. Second, This paper looked at the various activities of the second-generation monochromatic painting, which has been growing in the midst of aesthetic changes to postmodernism while monochromatic painting has been re-emerged on the world stage since the mid-2010s. Third, This paper accommodated the functional characteristics of digital media, which is becoming an important source of future art and simulated by packaging them into digital monochromatic paintings for first- and second-generation monochromatic paintings. As a result, monochromatic painting as Korea's unique art content can be shared to the world art community through the global network system of the digital environment, thereby confirming the possibility of popularizing and globalizing K-Art. This suggests that monochromatic painting does not stop with chronological values in modernist art, but can serve as a good example for the emergence of more unique content by participating in the diversity of contemporary art culture and contributing to the healthy development of Korean art.
