전통 조각보의 조형적 특성에 관한 연구 -형(形)과 색(色)의 정렬규칙 중심으로-

전통은 과거에 머물러 있는 물질문화 또는 행위양식이 아니라 과거와 현재 그리고 미래까지 영향을미치는 필수 불가결한 요소이다. 빠르게 변화하는 현대사회 속에 민족 고유의 전통과 역사를 이해하여우리 민족의 정체성과 가치를 확립하여 계승한다는 것은 그 시대에 부응하는 변화의 추구를 의미하고새로운 것을 창조하고 발전할 수 있는 원동력이 되는 수단으로 전통에 관한 연구는 지속적으로 필요하다. 본 연구는 한국을 대표하는 전통 섬유 공예의 한 분야로써 오늘날 예술 작품으로 재평가되어 여러 분야에서 다양하게 응용되어지고 있는 전통 조각보의 잠재적인 조형성과 미적 가치를 추론하여 조형 예술로의 새로운 시각적 언어를 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 연구 범위는 조선시대 19세기 말부터 20 세기 초엽까지 제작된 조각보를 중심으로 분석하였으며, 연구 방법은 조각보를 도식화하여 면을 이루고 있는 하나의 조각 개체를 기본 단위 형태로 설정하고 기본 단위가 이루고 있는 구성 방법 및 형(形)과 색(色)의 정렬 규칙을 분석틀을 이용하여 조형적 특성을 살펴보고 조각보의 유형을 재분류하였다. 분석 결과는 형과 색의 정렬 규칙에 따른 조각보의 유형은 8가지 유형과 12가지의 세부유형으로 나눌 수 있었으며 형의 정렬 규칙에 색의 정렬 규칙이 결합되면 기본 단위 형태의 상호간에 자연스러운 균형과 조화를 이루어 다양한 구조적 패턴을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 전통 조각보의정형화 되지 않은 구성미와 차별화된 미적가치를 확대하고 새로운 시각적 언어를 제시하고자 전통 조각보를 단순히 면 구성 요소에 따른 특성과 유형을 통한 분석이 아닌 조각보를 이루고 있는 조각 개체를 기본 단위 형을 기준으로 하여 형과 색의 정렬 규칙을 분석하였다. 이는 전통 조각보의 새로운 시각적 패턴 이미지 분석으로써 다양성과 차별화를 추구하는 분야에서 유용하게 활용 가능할 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The tradition is not a material culture or a behavior pattern, which remained in the past, but an indispensable factor affecting the past, the present and even the future. It is important to establish and inherit the identity and values of our people by understanding the traditions and history of the people in a rapidly changing modern society. Therefore, research on tradition is continuously needed as a means that means the pursuit of change corresponding to the era and becomes a driving force for creating and developing new things. This study aims to present a new visual language as a formative art by inferring the potential formability and aesthetic value of traditional sculpture beams that have been reevaluated as works of art today and applied in various fields. It primarily analyzed the Jogakbo which had been created from the late 19th century(the Joseon Dynasty period) to the early 20th century. The study methods were to set an individual patchwork constituting the plane of the Jogakbo as a basic unit, and to analyze the formative characteristics according to the alignment rules of forms and colors and categorize the types. The Jogakbo could be largely divided into 8 types and 12 sub-types, according to the alignment rules of forms and colors. It could be also found that the natural balance and combination among basic units are achieved to show variously structural patterns, if the alignment rule of forms is bonded with that of colors. This study attempted to provide a new visual language as the formative art, by analyzing the alignment rules of forms and colors from a specific and diversified perspective, rather than analyzing the characteristics of mere factors constituting the traditional Jogakbo. It is thus expected to be an opportunity for extending the developmental value of Jogakbo and suggesting the possibility of its applied expressions, by expanding the untypical architectonic beauty and the differentiated aesthetic value of it, and therefore, providing a new visual language which can be fused into various fields.
