브루탈리즘 표현특성을 반영한 패션 텍스타일 디자인 개발

Abstract

Brutalism is an architectural style that is characterized by abandoning all decorations and using crude and simple concrete following modernism architecture. The purpose of this study is to examine the concept and expression characteristics of Brutalist architectural style and developing fashion textile designs that reflect it. The research method is to examine the expressive characteristics of brutalism through literature research and case analysis, and develop fashion textiles by planning three concepts based on this. As a result of the case analysis, the brutalist architectural style expressed ‘purity of material’ through the method of using unfinished image concrete as the main material, and through the material’s natural color, rough and crude texture, and overwhelming scale and shape, the characteristic of expressing ‘Brutality of Sensual’ appeared. Also, ‘Repeatability of Form’ in which small elements are repeated in a structured or irregular pattern, and ‘interdependence of Structure’ through connection between different buildings or small modules were derived. A textile design work ‘Aesthetics of Brutal Geometry’ designed to reflect the expressive characteristics of brutalist architectural style, is composed of diamond repeats by connecting repetitive straight lines into geometric forms. ‘Aesthetics of Brutal Camouflage’ tried to apply the unique texture of the concrete wall to the textile design, and for this purpose, the shape of the building was arranged in a stripe form, and concrete texture mapping and shadow effects were applied. ‘Aesthetics of Brutal Structure’ was designed to reflect the unique expressive characteristics of Brutalism architecture through repeated placement, movement, rotation, and overlap of stairs and columns exposed on the outer wall of the building. This study has an academic significance in that it can be used as basic data for textile design idea education based on the convergence of architectural style and textile design.
