Abstract
Art education in elementary schools aims to foster physically and mentally stable human beings by cultivating creativity and formality through various aesthetic experiences and developing critical thinking skills. In order to cultivate a sense of emotional stability, creativity and formability, classes that can satisfy artistic needs should be included in art classes. Elementary school students prefer ceramic craft classes that are easy to express emotions freely and use nature-friendly clay. To continue this preference of elementary school students for ceramic craft classes, the subjective factors of 4th-6th grade elementary school students’ preference for ceramic craft classes will be analyzed using the Q methodology. And based on this, implications for the progress of students’ ceramic craft classes will be presented. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that elementary school students' preference for ceramic craft classes was divided into four types -“cultivation of creativity and character through sincerity and effort,” “improving formability of three-dimensional objects as tactile art and living art,” and “understanding tradition and forming an understanding of modern ceramic craft culture.”-. Type 1 is 4th grade elementary school girls, type 2 is 5th to 6th grades boys, and type 3 is 5th to 6th girls in elementary school. For the last, type 4 is 4th grade elementary school boys. All types have same preference factors, cultivate creativity and character through diligence and effort. Additionally, type 3 and type 4 have additional factors, such as improving formability for three-dimensional objects as tactile and life art, and the two factors were balanced. It can be seen that this is the subjective taste of individual students in which the preference factors for ceramic craft classes appear in various ways according to disposition. This study is significant in presenting the factors of preference for ceramic craft classes of elementary school students who appear differently according to individual preferences in ceramic craft class activities in elementary school’s art class.
