Abstract
Universal fashion that anyone can enjoy regardless of race, culture, age, gender, and disability are receiving great attention, as diversity and inclusion are important. The purpose of this study is to analyze universal design principles and design cases, and establish the characteristics and directions of design that can be applied to a fashion brand that can be used by everyone. The subject of the study is the case of universal design. As for the content and method of the study, first, the concept and development process of universal design were examined based on previous studies, and the principles of universal design were analyzed, second, architecture, space, and product design cases applying the principles of universal design were analyzed, and third, the characteristics of universal fashion design were established based on the analysis of fashion design cases. The analysis result is as below. First, universal design is a design that considers everyone with disabilities, the elderly, children, pregnant women, and foreigners, and is a user-oriented design that improves the quality of human life by designing to make life convenient for more people. Second, the principles of universal design are equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive use, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort, size and space for access and use. Third, in architecture and space design, universal design provides an interactive space, and in product design, universal design that can be used by anyone with little physical effort is provided. Fourth, the characteristics of fashion design applying the principle of universal design are the variability of structure, simplicity of design, ease of use and access, and functionality of situations and information notifications. This study presented the design characteristics of universal fashion as a specific research precedent for universal fashion design. I hope various designs will be planned as continuous research on universal fashion will be conducted in the future.
