현재 공예계는 전통문화와 소재, 기법, 디자인 등 전통과 기술이 융합된 제품개발이 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 단순히 사용 목적을 위해 만들었음에도 그 가치와 조형 및 디자인적 요소가 탁월한 공예품인 찬합의 분석을 통해 그 조형적 특징을 보이는 요소를 추출하여 전통공예품의 조형 요소를 현대디자인에 응용하고 발전시킬 수 있는 기초 조형의 토대 마련을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법은 우리나라 대표 박물관에서 소장하고 있는 조선 후기, 일제강점기, 광복 이후의 목기 찬합 90점을 대상으로 하여 시대별 찬합의 형태 변화 흐름을 살펴보고, 구조적으로 분류가 분명한 상자+서랍형, 다층형-사각, 다층형-원형, 자유형 등으로 유형을 나누어 분류하였다. 그리고 각각의 유형에 따라 구조적 특징 및 제작 방법을 살펴보고, 유형별 평균 크기, 장식적 표현 방법으로 문양, 장석 사용 등의 조형 요소를 추출하여 찬합의 형태를 새로운 디자인에 응용하기 위한 자료로서 목기 찬합의 기초 조형 요소를 정리하였다. 본 연구의 조형 분석을 통한 디자인 및 구조적 기초 조형 요소 제시는 찬합의 조형 요소들을 응용하여 재해석하고, 그 활용 방법을 찾아 새로운 공예품 개발에 다양한 시도와 현대디자인에 적극적으로 활용하여 우리나라의 공예계에 이바지할 수 있는 기초자료가 될 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
Currently, the craft industry is required to develop products that combine traditional culture with traditional technologies such as materials, techniques, and design. Therefore, this study aims to lay the foundation for a basic molding that can apply and develop the formative elements of traditional crafts to modern design by extracting elements that show their formative characteristics through the analysis of Chanhap, a craft with excellent value, formulation, and design elements even though it was made for simple use purposes. The research method examined the trend of changes in the form of Chanhap by period, targeting 90 wooden instruments after the late Joseon Dynasty, Japanese colonial era, and liberation held by Korea’s representative museums, and classified them into box + drawer type, multi-layer type, multi-layer type-square, multi-layer type-round type, and freestyle type.In addition, structural characteristics and manufacturing methods were examined for each type, and the basic formative elements of the woodwork Chanhap were summarized as data for applying the form of Chanhap to the new design by extracting form elements such as the average size by type and the use of feldspar by decorative expression. The presentation of design and structural basic molding elements through the formative analysis of this study is expected to serve as basic data that can contribute to Korea’s craft industry by applying Chanhap’s formative elements and actively utilizing them in various attempts and modern designs to find ways to utilize them.
