중국 치파오(旗袍)의 시대적 변화와 복식에 내재된 의미에 관한 연구

본 연구의 목적은 청대에 등장해 현대까지 이어진 치파오의 역사적 특징과 조형적 변화를 살펴보고 치파오에 내재된 지속성과 함의를 고찰하는 데 있다. 역사적 고찰을 위한 시대적 범위는 17세기 청나라 때부터 1950년대까지로 한정하고, 치파오의 형태적 변화는 20세기 초부터 문화대혁명이 발발하기 전 1950년대까지 살펴보기로 한다. 현대 패션계에 나타난 치파오 스타일에 대한 분석은 2011년부터 2020년까지 파리 및 밀라노 컬렉션을 중심으로 조사하였으며. 치파오 소매의 분류와 시대적 변화와 매듭장식 및 도가 유가적 결과는 3장에서 자세히 다루었다. 분석 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 1) 치파오는 중국 역사 문화의 궤적, 시대별 생활 방식, 미적 기준을 반영하고 있는 국가의 공식 예복으로서, 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 2) 치파오는 중국 복식 문화가 투영되어, 시대별 생활방식과 심미적 기준이 반영되어 있다. 다양한 역사적 시기를 거친 중국 여성의 사상적 해방과 진보적 의식을 포용하고 있다는 점에서 여권 신장의 상징으로도 볼 수 있다. 3) 치파오는 중화민족을 대표하는 전통 복식으로서, 끊임없이 이어지는 외부 요소를 수용하되 전통의 의미를 잃지 않아야 세계 패션 트렌드에 발맞춰 나아갈 수 있다. 4) 치파오는 최근 중국에서 이슈화되고 있는 ‘궈(國)’와 트렌드를 뜻하는 ‘차오(潮)’의 합성어로 중국화, 트렌드화의 요소를 갖추고 있다. 최근 몇 년 동안 궈차오 열풍에 힘입어 치파오는 복고적이면서도 우아하고 스타일리시한 분위기로 다시금 패션의 선두주자가 되었다. 오늘날 치파오는 전통과 현대, 중국과 서양이 융합된 글로벌 감각의 산물로서 그 역사와 의미를 재조명하는 데 본 연구의 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the historical characteristics and formative changes of the Qipao that appeared in the Qing Dynasty and continued to the present day, and to examine the persistence and implications inherent in the Qipao. The historical scope of this study is limited to the 1950s, with a focus on morphological changes from the early 20th century to the 1950s. The analysis of the Qipao’s presence in modern fashion focuses on the Paris and Milan collections from 2011 to 2020. Chapter 3 provides a detailed discussion on the classification of Qipao sleeves, historical transitions, and decorative knots, along with the results of the province’s Confucianism. The findings of the analysis are summarized as follows: The Qipao was an official garment that reflects the trajectory of Chinese historical culture, the lifestyle of each period, and evolving aesthetic standards. By incorporating elements of traditional Chinese clothing, the Qipao mirrors both the everyday lives and aesthetic values of its time, while also symbolizing women's ideological liberation and progressive awareness across various historical contexts. As a traditional garment representing the Chinese people, the Qipao can remain relevant in global fashion only by embracing ongoing external influences without compromising its cultural roots. The term "Guochao" (国潮), a compound of ‘Guo’ (nation) and ‘Chao’ (trend), has recently gained popularity in China. The Qipao, as part of this movement, embodies both Chinese identity and modern fashion sensibilities. Driven by the Guochao craze in recent years, the Qipao has reemerged as a fashionable item, blending retro elegance with contemporary style. Today, the Qipao stands as a fusion of tradition and modernity, East and West, and this study is meaningful in re-examining its historical trajectory and cultural significance.
