Abstract

This study aims to construct a sustainable automotive interior CMF (Color–Material–Finishing) analysis framework in response to circular economy regulations and the environmental requirements of the new energy vehicle industry. Based on a literature review and the EU 2025 “Circular Car Regulation,” the study derives key indicators such as recycled material ratio, ease of disassembly, and carbon-reduction in manufacturing processes. Four brands—BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, and Hyundai—were selected as cases, and a structured analysis was conducted across four dimensions: material, color, finishing, and emotion. In addition, symbolic evaluation (✔/△/✖) was applied to indicate the level of sustainability achievement. Based on these findings, a sustainable CMF analysis framework comprising the four dimensions was established, and an evaluation was conducted using a five-point Likert scale with 30 industry experts. The results show that the framework received upper-mid-level recognition for clarity, completeness, and practical applicability, with score distributions demonstrating stability and strong consistency. The study shows that the framework can be used to interpret the structural characteristics of CMF approaches across different brands and can function as a tool for material selection and design decision-making within the design process. The theoretical contribution lies in introducing quantitative indicators of the circular economy into the CMF system and structurally integrating emotional experience into the sustainable design framework, thereby strengthening the systematic nature and verifiability of CMF research.
