Abstract

After corporations have tried strategic approaches on corporate social responsibility, investment to social responsibility has been increasing. However, public evaluation to corporations is not getting better even though corporate social investment is increasing. In this study, the moderating effect of authenticity is used as a key factor to explain why this phenomenon is happened. Many studies have been conducted to figure out the effect of CSR on various stakeholder. Especially, consumer-related studies have tried to find the CSR effect on consumers’ purchase intention. Many results of these studies show the consumer’s CSR evaluation has a positive effect on attitude and purchase intention toward product/brand. This CSR effect can be different by how corporations show their authenticity usually. This study has a purpose that confirms the effect of CSR on consumers’ attitude and purchase intention toward product and the moderating effect of authenticity. First of all, check relationship between the consumers’ perceived CSR performance and attitude toward product what is confirmed in other studies. The result show perceived CSR performance by consumers makes attitude toward product more favorable. Additionally, positive evaluation on CSR influences on purchase intention positively. Finally, how corporations’ usual authenticity can change the effect of perceived CSR performance on attitude and purchase intention toward corporate products. According to the result of this study, authenticity has a moderating effect between perceived CSR performance and purchase intention, while it has no moderating effect between perceived CSR performance and attitude.
