Abstract
Purpose: Even though the best pleasure thing by them, if they are human being, then satiated soon. And this is very barrier of happiness. Satiation is an obstacles of consumers’ satisfaction and happiness. Fencing off such satiation, marketers have added additional options or have launched novel models continuously. These policies, however, may consume their limited resources inefficiently. This study focused not on the objective variety but rather on the subjective variety that could alleviate satiation. This subject of satiation may affect product preference. This research manipulated consumers’ subjective variety through a unique naming strategy. Specifically, this study suggested that the effects of unique naming may be moderated by variables such as the need for cognition, mood and need for uniqueness. Design/methodology/approach: This study complicated total three experiments. Ex. 1 is the moderating role of NFC. Ex. 2 researched the effects of mood on variety. Ex. 3 dealt with NFU. Results/findings: For Ex. 1, high NFC consumers preferred unique naming to common naming. On the other hand, for low NFC consumers, it is vice versa. The results for Ex. 2 provide a positive mood fitted with unique naming, negative mood, however, did not. The Ex. 3 said high NFU preferred unique naming, and low NFU did common naming. Research implications/limitations: This study provides a new reference for the brand naming approach on marketing. However, this research should be confirmed in real conditions. Future work/research: A future research should find the underlying mechanism from the above results. Originality/value: This study finds the strategy of effective brand naming in marketing.
