Nowadays Korean shortened forms have been widespread and continued to expand in a variety of fields such as politics, economy, mass media, and culture. There are several reasons for this kind of popularity: imitation mentality, iconicity principle, subtle connotations of idioms, pride and self-esteem to word coinage, an effort to reduce generation gap, competitive spirit. But we should be careful about using too much amount of shortened forms in Korean especially related to sexual discrimination, depreciation, offend, and mockery. And we should try to keep the original and beautiful nature of Korean language.
