This study investigates the impact of utilizing ChatGPT in an extracurricular English newsletter writing course on university students’ writing skills and perceptions. The research was conducted over several months with students from diverse academic backgrounds, focusing on their experiences with ChatGPT for drafting articles. The findings suggest that most participants viewed the use of ChatGPT positively, appreciating its help in improving grammatical accuracy and fostering creative thinking. However, some noted a reliance on the tool that could hinder the development of their English language skills. The study highlights the need for educational strategies that effectively integrate AI tools like ChatGPT without diminishing the learners’ engagement or the educational outcomes. Future research should explore these dynamics across broader contexts to enhance personalized learning experiences and develop more refined educational methodologies.
