대학생의 중도탈락 의도 및 실제 중도탈락 여부, 재입학 여부에 따른 집단별 특성 탐색 연구 -G 국립대학 사례를 중심으로-

본 연구는 대학생의 중도탈락 의도와 실제 중도탈락 여부, 재입학 여부에 따라 집단을 구분하고 각 집단별 특성을 탐색하는 것에 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해, 강원도의 G 국립대학 재학생 2,812명의 학적 데이터와 대학 적응력 검사 데이터를 활용하였다. 연구 집단의 구분은 중도탈락에 대한 의도와 실제 중도탈락 여부에 따른 2×2 네 집단과 재입학한 학생 집단을 포함하여 총 다섯 집단으로 설정하였다. 학업 관련 변인과 대학 관련 변인에서 다섯 집단이 어떠한 차별적 특성을 보이는지 탐색한 결과는 다음과 같다. 사전에 중도탈락 의도가 있었고, 실제 중도탈락한 집단은 다른 집단에 비해 높은 학사경고 횟수와 낮은 평점평균(GPA)을 보이는 집단이며, 장학 횟수와 상담 횟수, 총 취득 학점도 낮았다. 중도탈락 의도가 없었지만 중도 탈락한 집단 역시 이들과 비슷한 수준의 장학 횟수와 상담 횟수, 취득 학점을 보였지만, 평점평균은 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 대학 관련 변인에서의 차이를 살펴보면, 중도탈락 의도가 있던 중도탈락 집단은 학문적 통합성이 낮고, 교수와의 관계와 대학 만족도가 낮은 특징을 보였으나, 중도탈락 의도가 없던 중도탈락 집단은 학문적 통합성이 높고, 높은 정서적 안정성과 진로 정체성, 경제적 안정성을 보이는 집단으로 나타나 차별적이었다. 한편 중도탈락 의도는 있으나 탈락하지 않은 집단은 정서적 안정성과 경제적 안정성이 가장 낮은 집단으로 나타났으며, 전공에 대한 만족도 역시 낮았다. 마지막으로 재입학 집단은 학사경고 횟수와 일반휴학 횟수가 높으나 교수와의 관계와 대학에 대한 인식이 긍정적인 특징을 보였다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 대학의 중도탈락 방지를 위한 결론 및 시사점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study aimed to categorize groups based on the intention to drop out, actual dropout status, and re-entry status of university students, exploring the characteristics of each group. For this purpose, enrollment data and CAT data of 2,812 students at G National University in Gangwon Province were utilized. The groups were categorized into five, including a 2×2 matrix based on the intention and actual occurrence of dropout, as well as a group of students who re-entry. The results of exploring distinctive characteristics among the five groups in academic and university-related variables are as follows. The group with both prior dropout intention and actual dropout showed a higher frequency of academic warnings, a lower grade point average (GPA), fewer scholarship and counseling instances, and lower total acquired credits compared to other groups. The group without prior dropout intention but who dropped out exhibited similar levels of scholarship and counseling instances, and acquired credits, but with a higher GPA. Examining differences in university-related variables, the group with dropout intention and actual dropout displayed lower academic integration, poorer relationships with professors, and lower university satisfaction. In contrast, the group without prior dropout intention but who dropped out showed higher academic integration, higher emotional stability, career identity, and economic stability. Those with dropout intention but did not drop out constituted the group with the lowest emotional and economic stability and lower satisfaction in their major. Lastly, the re-enrollment group exhibited higher instances of academic warnings and general leaves of absence but demonstrated positive perceptions of relationships with professors and the university. Based on these research findings, the study concludes by providing implications and recommendations for preventing university dropouts.
