Abstract

The cold chain is a critical logistics system that ensures the quality and safety of temperature-sensitive products such as food, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnological goods. While stringent international guidelines have been established, standardized management and certification frameworks remain underdeveloped in Korea. This study identified key certification factors through expert interviews (n=4) and industry surveys (n=38). Findings indicate that “temperature-time monitoring and control systems” were rated as most critical, whereas “economic feasibility and sustainability” and external certification requirements received lower evaluations. These results underscore the paramount importance of temperature time control and risk management, while also revealing practical resistance stemming from additional workload and cost burdens. Consequently, the successful implementation of a cold chain certification system necessitates persuasive engagement with industry stakeholders alongside the development of supportive policy measures for certified firms.
