초록
This paper argues that morality should be rooted in Whitehead’s notion of God. The atheistic conception on morality does not offer the genuine moral bedrock for human behaviors. As an atheistic attempt, John Mackie’s moral theory, which presupposes humans can make objective moral values, is self-contradictory. On the other hand, the traditional dispute with modern moral views is plausible and comprehensible in maintaining God as the moral ground, but it fails because their notion of God is not coherent. The main difference between traditional theists and process thinkers comes from the meaning of omnipotence. According to process thought, the traditional meaning of God as omnipotent contradicts with the genuine freedom of the actual entity. Divine Power in process thoughts is not coercive but persuasive. The notion of God as persuasiveness not only declares the genuine freedom, but also lures the actual entity to achieve aesthetic value.
