본 논문은 Covid-19의 세계적 유행 위기 시대를 맞아 이를 돌파할 인류 생존을 위한 지혜의 하나로 예수가 가르친 사랑의 이중계명과 원수 사랑을 검토한다. 이를 위해 중국 춘추전국시대 묵자의 겸애사상과 헬레니즘시대 에피쿠로스학파와 스토아학파의 생존 윤리, 구약성서와 유대문헌이 말하는 ‘사랑의 이중 계명’과 ‘원수 사랑’ 관련 가르침을 먼저 살펴본다. 그리하여 예수가 가르친 ‘가장 큰 계명’과 ‘원수 사랑’의 실천 요구가 독창적인 게 아니라 혼란한 시대를 헤쳐 나가기 위한 인류의 전통 지혜에 영향 받았음을 밝힌다. 예수는 헬레니즘 확산, 로마제국의 식민 지배, 헤롯 왕가의 독재, 성전 지배체제의 부패 따위로 유대 공동체의 전통 질서가 급속히 해체되는 현상을 세상 종말에 닥친 큰 위기로 보았다. 그는 이 위기에 대응하기 위해 하나님의 자비로움을 닮은 무차별한 큰 사랑의 실천 원리를 생존을 위한 대안의 지혜로 제시하였다. 그는 나라, 민족, 계층, 세대, 성별, 지역, 가족, 종교를 넘어선 ‘큰 사랑’의 실천을 요구함으로써 이 사랑이 비단 인간을 넘어 온 세상 피조물에게도 적용 가능한 여지를 남겼다. 따라서 본 논문은 예수의 큰 사랑의 가르침이 감염병의 세계적 대유행과 생태위기 극복을 위한 대안의 생존 윤리로 깊이 성찰할 필요가 있음을 강조한다.
Abstract
This paper examines the double commandment of love and the love of enemies, taught by Jesus as one of the wisdom for human survival to break through the era of the global epidemic crisis of Covid-19. To this end, the author first examines the concept of ‘universal love’ of Mohism during the Warring States period in China, the survival ethic of the Epicurus and Stoic schools in the Hellenistic period, and the teachings related to the ‘double commandment of love’ and ‘love of enemies’ in the Old Testament and Jewish literature. Thus, it is revealed that the demands for the practice of “the greatest commandment” and “love for enemies” taught by Jesus were not original, but were influenced by the traditional wisdom of mankind to get through the turbulent times. Jesus saw the rapid dissolution of the traditional order of the Jewish community due to the spread of Hellenism, the colonial rule of the Roman Empire, the dictatorship of the Herodians, and the corruption of the temple rule as the great crisis at the end of the world. In order to cope with this crisis, he presented the principle of practicing indiscriminate great love that resembles God's mercy as an alternative wisdom for survival. Therefore, this thesis emphasizes the need to deeply reflect on the teachings of Jesus' great love as an alternative survival ethic for overcoming the global pandemic of infectious diseases and ecological crisis.
