Abstract
Considering our society's increasing interest in care, this study aims to present the spiritual principles of the life and ministry of care while more actively considering the pastoral context of care as a response. By integrating and examining Paul Tillich's theological understanding of ministry, Henry Nouwen's spirituality of care, and Parker Palmer's humanities perspective on care, we present three images that can promote the life of care and ministry after revealing the ontological significance of care. Henry Nouwen's "the wounded healer," Donald Capps' "the agent of hope," and Michel de Certeau's "mystical wanderer" images, while each having their own meanings, show that the caring person listens to the stories of the other with an attitude of compassion and hospitality, provides hope for the future, and forms a community based on Christ's love. In conclusion, this study argues that care is a universal human existence and human calling, an event that drives public life and forms a community, and furthermore, a place of spiritual experience.
