Muslims with the strong faith in Tawhid understand Allah as the Judge instead of loving God, even though there is the name of Allah as “Al-Wadud.” Likewise, Islamic traditional understanding of Allah leads the Muslims to submission to the Islamic obligations, Sharia, rather than seeking spiritual experiences such as a personal relationship with God. However, within the Islamic tradition, there are also the ones who seek spiritual experiences with God, they are Sufis. Sufis practices spiritual formation aiming the unification with God. Muslim believers need to be separated from their old-world view on Islam, and grow spiritually seeking the presence of God in their daily life as the disciple of Jesus. This paper studied on the characteristics and aspects of Sufis based on the Islamic understanding of faith journey and intimate relationship with God. Also, through the study on Ruh Khudus in the Quran, the necessity of accurate understanding of the Holy Spirit as the immanent Spirit for Muslim believers is presented. These studies shall be significant help for Muslim believers to begin their faith journey as their spiritual formation.
