기독교의 ‘하나님’을 ‘알라’로 번역할 수 있는가?

미로슬라브 볼프(Miroslav Volf)의 책, 『알라: 기독교와 이슬람의 신은 같은가?』가 2011년 미국에서 출간되고 2016년 한국에서 번역된 이후에 많은 논란이 있어왔다. 볼프는 기독교와 이슬람이 본질적으로 같은 신을 예배하고 있는 것으로 보았고, 이것이 양 종교간의 싸움과 대립을종식시키고공공선을논할수있는중요한공통적토대가될수 있다고 주장했다. 본 논고에서는 먼저는 이러한 볼프의 주장과 그에 대 한 비평을 살펴보도록 하겠다. 그 이후 기독교의 신명과 이슬람의 신 명 번역의 역사와 언어적 의미에 대해 연구한 후, 신명의 일반적 언급 (Generic reference)과 역사적 언급(Historic reference)을 구분하는 것이 이 논쟁을 풀 수 있는 핵심임을 밝히고자 한다. 마지막으로 현대 의 선교적 상황에서 기독교 신명(하나님)의 알라 번역가능성에서 생각 해야 할 점들을 제안하도록 하겠다.
Abstract
Since Miroslav Volf published his book, Allah: Christian Response, in 2011 at America, which translated as Korean in 2016, there had been great disputes. Volf believes that Christianity and Islam worship the same God and that this common worship would be the communal ground to cease extreme conflicts aginst each other. This article firstly looks at Volf's claim and its criticisms. Then, it will probe the history of translation of Christian deity-name and Islam deity-name. Later, it will argue that the distingushment between the generic reference and the historic reference of both religion's deity-name is the key to solve the dispute. Lastly, it will suggest several considerable points to translate Christian deity-name as Allah.
