초록
This paper examines the way Kevin J. Vanhoozer’s scholarship delved into a variety of disciplinary fields, such as systematic theology, hermeneutics, postmodern theology, biblical studies, theology and culture, religious philosophy, and epistemology. His life had a dynamism that always stayed close to and cogitated on such topics as music, art, and literature, and his Christian cultural hermeneutics was a search for the culture creating spirit, a pursuit of the meaning of evangelism and the gospel. His hermeneutics was a scholarship that not only revealed creation through the words of culture and maintenance by the spirit, but also demonstrated a humility amidst the uncertainties of and conviction for the hope of salvation. It was a hermeneutics that envisioned a glorious eschatology. Strengthened by Vanhoozer’s insights, today’s Christian cultural hermeneutics has presented the need to view the world through a relationship with the Creator God, to understand with the eyes of a redeeming Jesus Christ, and to find solutions with the insight of the Paraclete Holy Spirit. It can be said that the spirit of interpreting culture comes from the value systems of the interpreters. Interpreters carry out the hermeneutics of Christian culture with their Christian world‐views, which are based on the Bible, namely the Word of God. The creation of culture begins with the Creator God, and through this creation it can be seen that God’s mind is the spirit that creates culture. God shows that He is very happy to see the world He created and the people who are in His image living their lives and carrying out his cultural commands in this world (Genesis 1:31). With regard to the past, present, and future Christian culture existing within the diverse realms of culture, such as music, art, literature, architecture, and film, Christian cultural hermeneutics must always make an effort to distance Christian culture from the culture of sin and darkness, and adjust its heightened sense of direction towards the culture of salvation and life.
