초록

Despite the Korean Church’s short history, the influence of Korean Church to the world is significant. As we know, the Korean Churches are the second country that sent missionaries to all over the world for the gospel. However, it is the fact that Korean Churches have suffered difficult time because of not only pastors’ spiritual problem, but also their ethical one. Since 1990s, the numbers of the Korean Churches have been decreasing, losing its influence on Korean society. Why is this happening in the Korean Churches? There are many reasons, but the author admits that there is a leadership problem of pastors in the Korean Church. This study investigates this leadership problem. The primary purpose of the study is what leadership in the missional church is about. Since growing of interesting about missional church, we have met the familiar question, “What do you mean by missional church?” With the question, another issued question is about missional leadership. The question means that it is impossible to think the missional leadership without the concept of missional church. At its core, missional church is how we cultivate a congregational environment where God is the center of conversation and God shapes the focus and work of the people. We believe this is a shift in imagination for most congregations; it is a change in the culture of congregational life. Missional leadership is about shaping cultural imagination within a congregation wherein people discern what God might be about among them and in their community. So, missional leadership is about creating an environment, is about asking questions, not giving answers, and is about character and authenticity. Missional leadership creates meaning in the midst of the chaos. In order to form the missional leadership, the paper indicates six critical issues for missional leadership; ‘Missional leadership is the key, but how do you do it?’ ‘Most models repackage old paradigms,’‘Discontinuous change is the new norm,’ ‘Congregations still matter,’‘Leaders need new capacities and frameworks,’ and ‘A congregation is a unique organization.’With six critical issues, the paper also describes that the missional leadership is able to be shaped by the revelation of Jesus Christ, the Spirit’s formation of the postPentecost community, and the recovery of eschatology. In the perspective of the relationship between missional leadership and culture, missional leadership seeks to express the gospel in ways that speak to the realities of their sociocultural setting. Missional leadership must understand their context and interpret that context to the church so that a faithful and relevant witness emerges. In conclusion, the task of missional leadership is to lead the congregation as a whole in mission to the community as a God’s missionary people. That is not only the key to solve the problem the Korean Churches have suffered, but the basic foundation to transit from the good to great for the Korean Churches.
