『譯語類解』에 나타난 近代漢語 借用語

주지하시다시피 중국으로부터 차용된 한자어는 일반적으로 한문 고전을 배경으로 전해지거나 언어 접촉으로 인해 전해지는데 전자에 비해 언어 접촉으로 인해 유입된 차용어에 대한 연구는 상대적으로 적은편이다. 이를 연구할 때 구어 색채가 농후한 역학서를 유용하게 활용할수 있는데 그 이유는 상층 계급의 언어로 기록한 경전에 비하여 역학서에는 상인과 서민들이 실제 사용하는 언어가 담겨 있고 역학서를 통해 한글로 표기된 차용어의 어형을 알 수 있으며 당시의 한음도 한글로 병기되어 있어 차용 전후의 음운 변화를 설명하는 데에 도움이 될 것이기 때문이다. 본고에서는 바로 사역원(司譯院)에서 최초로 간행된 역학서로서 각별한 의미를 지니는 『譯語類解』를 면밀히 살펴보면서 우선 기존 연구에서언급하지 않았던 ‘탄(彈子)’, ‘등(鐙子)’, ‘샹(箱子)’, ‘통 (筒兒)’, ‘챠 (夾兒)’, ‘호통(火筒)’, ‘젼쵸(川椒)’, ‘근두(跟斗/頭)’, ‘샤약(芍藥) 등단어에 대해 분석해보았다. 다음 기존 연구에서 이의가 있는 몇몇 차용어들을 재검토해보았으며 또한 어원이 불분명한 ‘흐리믕등 다’에 대해서도 나름의 근거를 대고 논의를 전개하였다. 본고는 기존 논의에서 제외되었던 일부 차용어를 밝혀냈을 뿐만 아니라 그 차용어의 중국 문헌의 출처를 밝히고 한어 음운사에 입각하여음운 변화의 설명을 곁들었다는 데 그 의의가 있다. 이는 근대한어 차용어의 전모를 파악하는데 얼마간의 도움이 되리라고 생각된다.
Abstract
As is known to all, the Chinese characters introduced to Korean can be roughly divided into two categories: characters introduced through Chinese classics and loan words introduced through language contact. Compared with the former, there are fewer studies on loan words introduced through language contact. The colloquial Yeokhakseo should be made full use of to study such loan words, which is because the Yeokhakseo contain the language that the merchants and the ordinary people actually use in their daily lives, compared with the classics that represent the upper-class language. We can acquire knowledge of the Hangul-represented word forms of the loan words through the Yeokhakseo. In addition, the then Chinese pronunciation is recorded in Hangul in the Yeokhakseo, which facilitates the explanation of the phonetic changes of loan words after their introduction to Korean. Yeokeoyuhae, the first Yeokhakseo, is taken as the research object in the paper. Firstly, the Chinese words such as ‘탄 (彈子)’, ‘등(鐙子)’, ‘샹(箱子)’, ‘통 (筒兒)’, ‘챠 (夾兒)’, ‘호통(火筒)’, ‘쳔쵸(川椒)’, ‘근두(跟斗/ 頭)’, ‘샤약(芍藥)’, which are not mentioned in the previous studies, are analyzed based on a careful examination. Secondly, the controversial parts of the previous research concerning the catalogue of modern Chinese loan words in Yeokeoyuhae are discussed again. In addition, the word‘흐리믕등 다’, whose etymology is still unclear, is analyzed based on my research. The new loan words missed in the previous research are discussed in the paper and their literature sources are verified. The phonetic changes of the loan words are also explained based on Chinese historical phonology. I hope that the paper can contribute to the full understanding of modern Chinese loan words.
