본 연구는 한국 현대문학을 대표하는 작가 중 한 명인 이청준(1939-2008)의 소설 『조율사』의 『역사-비평본』 편집 및 출간에 관한 문헌학적 연구이다. 문헌학적 의미에서 ‘역사적’이란 한 작품의 텍스트가 생성-전승되는과정을 추적하는 것이며 ‘비평적’이란 이 과정에서 텍스트가 변모된 과정을 추적하고, 남아 있는 판본들의 훼손, 오염된 부분을 판독, 교정하여 작가가 원래 의도한 또는 그 의도에 가장 근접한 텍스트를 복원 또는 재구성해내며, 각 판본 간의 ‘텍스트 상이점 기록표 Apparat’의 작성을 과학적인 근거에 의해 진행시킨다는 것을 의미한다. 일반적으로 <역사·비평본 편집>은 1) 텍스트의 모든 판본을 수집해그 생성과정 및 텍스트 변천과정을 연구하고, 2) 초판 텍스트에 근거해 정본(원전) 텍스트를 정립하여 3) 이를 기준으로 텍스트에서 차이를보이는 모든 판본(이본)들을 서로 비교분석(대교)한 후, 4) ‘텍스트 상이점 기록표 Apparat’를 작성하며 4) 초판본과 현재의 독자 사이에 놓인“시간적 ․ 문화적 ․ 정신적 간극을 극복”하기 위한 주해서 작성으로 이루어진다. 본 연구 역시 이러한 <역사·비평본> 편집의 일반 원칙에 근거해 1) 『조율사』 텍스트의 판본을 수집해 총 12개 판본을 편집(연구)대상으로확정했으며, 2) 초판본인 1972년 『문학과 지성』 연재 판본을 기준(기저본)으로 정본(원전) 텍스트를 정립한 후 3) 이를 기준으로 텍스트에서차이를 보이는 모든 12개 판본(이본)들을 서로 비교분석(대교)한 후, 4) ‘텍스트 상이점 기록표 Apparat’를 작성하였으며 4) 마지막으로 주해서작성을 시도하였다. 이와 같은 문헌학적 연구는 국내에서는 거의 이루어지지 않은 분야의 연구이다. 특히 텍스트가 상대적으로 방대한 소설 장르의 경우 ‘역사·비평본’ 출간은 아직 전무한 상태이다. 그러므로 본 <이청준 소설 『 조율사』의 역사비평본 연구>는 소설 장르에서 국내 최초로 시도되는연구이며, 이러한 점을 감안해 편집 각 단계의 작업방식 및 ‘텍스트 상이점 기록표 Apparat’ 제작 및 이용방법에 대해 상세한 해설을 시도하였다.
Abstract
This thesis is a philological study on the editing and publishing of the historical-critical edition of the Novel 『The Tuner』 of Lee Chongjun (1939-2008), a representative novelist of Korean modern literature. In the philological sense, 'historical' means to trace the process of creation and transmission of a text . 'Critical' means to trace the process of transforming the text in this process and to read the damaged text. The purpose of this work is to restore or reconstruct the text originally intended by the author or the text closest to the intention of the author. In addition, the text of each edition is compared and analyzed, and the writing of 'Apparat', a text difference table between versions, is also made. This study, 1) collected 12 versions of texts of the Novel 『The Tuner』 and analyzed the process of creation and transposition of text, 2) compared and analyzed all the versions of texts 3) made Apparat 4) also made commentar to overcome temporal-cultural Gap between the first edition and the present reader. Such a study, however, has been rarely done in Korea, especially, in the case of a Novel, relatively large genre of texts, The publication of 'History and Criticism' of novels has not been published in Korea yet. Therefore, this study <'historical-critical edition' of the Novel 『The Tuner』 of Lee Chongjin > is a very original and pioneering work which is first attempted in Korea in the novel genre.
