이 논문의 목적은 마이클 왈저의 직장민주주의를 약술하고 자유주의적 관점의 비판과 사회주의적 관점의 비판을 소개한 후 각 비판에 대한 필자의 반론을 제기하는것이다. 왈저는 하나의 원칙에 따라 사회의 모든 영역을 평등하게 만드려는 단순평등 이론을 거부하고, 사회를 다양한 영역으로 구분하여 각 영역에 적합한 정의를 실현하는 복합평등사회를 제시한다. 특히 그의 직장 민주주의 이론은 신자유시대에 기업에서 의사결정권한을 박탈당한 노동자들에게 기업내부의 권력을 되돌려주려는 이론적 기획이다. 그는 기업의 의사결정 과정을 돈의 영역이 아닌 정치영역으로 간주하고 노동자들의 자주관리 권한을 하나의 정치적 권리로 파악한다. 논문에서는 직장민주주의를 직원권리운동, 종업원주식소유제도, 협동조합과 비교하여 각각의 장단점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This paper attempts to analyze the theory of workplace democracy ofMichael Walzer. Walzer is a communitarian theorist. He has tried tocombine communitarianism and Marxism. First, I analyzed the relationshipbetween 'simple equality' and 'complex equality'. Second, I investigated theconcept of the workplace democracy in the context of Walzer's theory. Third, I showed the critics of liberalism and radicalism. Forth, I comparedthe workplace democracy with 'employee rights movement','ESOP(Employee Stock Ownership Plan) and 'workers’ cooperative' such asMondragon. Fifth, I refuted criticism over Walzer's theory.
