Abstract

Korea has entered a multicultural society. The influx of immigrants is inevitable due to the low birth rate and aging issues in Korean society. And Korea’s multicultural society is moving amidst the powerful wave of globalization. Therefore, the phenomenon of a multicultural society is require, not an option. Because this is a global reality that cannot be denied. Multicultural society is a missionary opportunity for Korean Christianity. So far, the focus has been on overseas missions. However, now, immigrant missions are slowly emerging as a mainstream trend. In this reality of Korean society, the Korean church must correct the direction of missions. However, it is also true that there is a lack of understanding of the ideology that is rooted in a multicultural society. Without exception, countries facing a multicultural society are faced with the important task of social integration. Each country is preparing various policies to achieve social integration. However, what controls the direction of the policy is ideology. Among the ideologies discussed in a multicultural society, the core is ‘multiculturalism’. In other words, it is a conceptual understanding of Christian multiculturalism. Multiculturalism has already been declared a failure in many developed countries. Nevertheless, multiculturalism will become the core ideology of a multicultural society. Therefore, it is essential for the Korean church to understand the ideology of multiculturalism in order to achieve missionary tasks in a multicultural society. However, multiculturalism has many problems. Therefore, a Christian alternative is needed. In other words, it is a conceptual understanding of Christian multiculturalism. Christian multiculturalism is an idea that does not focus on culture but on individual humans within that culture. In other words, the spirit of ‘love of neighbors’ for multicultural people is at its core. Christian multiculturalism will serve as the most excellent ideology for achieving social integration.
