Abstract
Currently museum is required to advance a step further from constructivist –based visitor centered museum toward participatory museum in which museum, visitors, and communities are connected for mutual communication and partnership. In this context, starting from objects of museum as a mean to induce active communication and interaction among visitors, that is, a social object. this study developed a participatory museum educational program which enables visitors’ participatory experience to expand gradually from individual level to social level. Theories used for the program design and development were 1) 5 stages of participatory museum as for the program design principles, and 2) 6 elements of participatory practice as for design strategies and objects of the program. The 2-hour participatory museum program were applied to total 77 of adult participants, resulting in consistently and highly positive responses from the participants. Participatory museum, however, requires shared understanding and perception among all staffs of museum toward the new museum mission and vision as prerequisite before and along with practice of the participatory museum program.
