육당의 시조는 어떤 공리적인 목적, 곧 기능성으로부터 출발했다. 그의 말대로 그에게 있어 시조는 개인의 유희차원이 아니라 공리적인 차원에서 출발한 것이다. 여기서 공리성이란 육당이 탐색한 조선만의 특수한 형식이며, 세계성과 맞서는 양식이다. 조선의 정체성과 조선 만들기를 필생의 과업으로간직하고 있었던 육당에게 시조만큼 자신을 만족시켜줄 좋은 문학 양식도 없었다. 그가 시조를 조선의 정신과 혼을 대변하는 형식으로 이해한 것은 바로이런 이유 때문이다. 육당의 시조는 시대의 조류를 거스르는 듯한 느낌을 주어도 그가 추구한한국학이라는 거대 서사의 관점에서 볼 때 결코 과소평가될 수 있는 것은 아니다. 조선만의 예외성과 특수성의 문학적 구현이 시조였고, 그러한 시조의특색들이 육당의 사상과 절묘하게 결합됨으로써 육당의 시조학, [백팔번뇌]가 탄생되었기 때문이다. 따라서 시조는 육당이 찾아낸 조선의 최고 장르이며, 세계성과 맞서는 특수성이었고, 제국주의의 통합성에 저항하는 고유성이었다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
Abstract
This paper studies characteristic of enlightenment and writing of ChoiNam Sun and analyzes the project of enlightenment and universe of ChoiNam Sun. It is times pointed out that poetry of statement, poetry of sole ofkorea, in the Sijo of Choi Nam Sun was features of the his hole poetry. His poetry of statement and Sijo of lyric characteristic and modern sensesof Choi Nam Sun has been involved features the first stage poetry. That istrain and sea, child in whole period. Especially it restarted experience of theproject of enlightenment and characteristic sole of korea and modernenlightenment of with that period. The poetical investigation of Choi Nam Sun as we pointed out in hispoetry, embodies modern characteristic of modern korean poetry. That is tosay, his orientation in his modern and life, have the opportunity tounderstand in his whole poetry. The train image and sea, child are theimportant concept the whole stage poetry. This work is the first stagedeparting from poetry of statement and lyric in the Choi Nam Sun’s Sijo.
