모윤숙의 「풍랑(風浪)」과 한국전쟁

이 논문은 모윤숙의 『풍랑』이 가지는 문학사적 의의를 검토하고 있다. 기존 연구에서 이 시집을 리얼리티가 성공적으로 구현되었다고 하고 있으나 남은 영상자료와 정황으로 작품을 바라볼 때 그렇게 볼 수 없는 부분이적지 않아 논의를 전개하게 되었다. 논의 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 『풍랑』의 구성을 보면, 내용 상 수난편, 전쟁편, 서정편으로 나눌 수 있으나 그 경계가 뚜렷하지 않고 같은 범주에 있는 작품 간에도 상호 견인력이 없어 단독 시집으로서의 위상이 높지는 않다고 할 수 있다. 수난편에 대해서 기존 연구는 작가의 전쟁 체험이 사실적으로 반영되었다 하지만 한림대학교 아시아문화연구소가 소장한 영상자료를 보면 리얼리티의 성공적인 시적 형상화로 해석하기 힘들며 주제 의식은 관념에 기반하여 전쟁의 고통을 상투적으로 드러냈다고 할 수 있다. 그리고 전쟁편에 대해서는 모윤숙의 애국주의가 그대로 표출되었다고 논의되었으나 사실은 본인이 획득한 권력을 보존하기 위해 조국을 성자적(聖者的) 어머니로 치환하고 전쟁에 참여한 이들의 희생을 강요했다고 할 수 있다. 또한서정편이 외부적 상황과 무관한 모윤숙의 내면세계를 그린 것이라는 주장역시 허구이며, 실제로는 본인의 정치 행로를 서정으로 포장한 것이라 할수 있다. 이렇게 『풍랑』을 이해하고 모윤숙이 해방 이후 공간에서 정계와문단의 주류였다는 점을 상기한다면, 우리는 그가 공동체의 가치를 시 정신으로 승화했다기보다는 자신의 과거 행적을 감추고 이기적 미래를 위해전쟁을 이용한 것은 아니었는지 생각해 볼 일이다.
Abstract
Considering the composition of Wind Waves, it can be classified into Passion, War, and Lyric. However, the classification is unclear and even pieces in the same category do not correspond. So, it is not considered successful as separate collections of poetry. Preceded studies on Passion realistically reflect the poet’s experience of war. However, the video source possessed by Asian Cultural Institute at Hallym University, it is not interpreted as successful poetic expression of reality and the theme is only a banal concept of the pain of war. In terms of War, it was said that it clearly expresses Mo, Yoon Sook’s patriotism,but, in fact, it stated her nation as the mother of saint and forced sacrifice of those fighting at war to preserve her authority. The argument that Lyric describes Mo, Yoon Sook’s internal world that is unrelated to the external circumstances is also incorrect. In fact, it is only her political progress disguised in lyrical terms. Based on this understanding of Wind Waves and considering that Mo, Yoon Sook was a part of the mainstream in the politics and literature after liberation, we should be encouraged to ponder that she may have used war to hide her past and for her selfish future rather than poetically discussing the value of community.
