초록
Enteromyxum leei is an intestinal parasite that causes enteromyxosis in the cultured olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in the Republic of Korea. To develop effective control methods, it is necessary to conduct fundamental research on the viability determination, transcriptome analysis, and antigenicity assessment of E. leei myxospores. Since E. leei produces myxospores rarely in the olive flounder, an experimental infection was conducted using the vegetative stage of E. leei via oral inoculation in red seabream Pagrus major, which were previously known to produce myxospores of the parasite. The condition factor of red seabreams decreased by 4.6% (from 1.73 to 1.65), and the mortality and infection rates were 14.3% and 28.6% at ten weeks post-inoculation. The vegetative stages and myxospores of E. leei were observed in the intestinal scrapings, and approximately 10^2 -10^3 myxospores were obtained from the intestinal tissues infected by E. leei. In comparison to the haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain, the Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) stain demonstrated a more intense staining of parasite cells in the histopathological investigation.
