서울시 고령인들의 삶 만족도에 미치는 변인 연구

인간은 노화로 인해 신체적 변화 뿐만 아니라 심리적 및 사회적 변화를 총체적으로 경험하게 된다. 이런 변화를 통해 고령인들은 만족스러운 삶을 누리는데 영향을 받게 된다. 그러나 고령인들의 삶의 만족도에 영향을 줄 수 있는 변인에 대한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이 연구는 장애인과 비장애인을 모두 포함시켜 고령인들의 삶의 만족도에 영향을 줄 수 있는 변인들을 알아보기 위한 고안되었다. 본 연구는 서울시 내 1개구를 선정하여 장애인과 비장애인을 포함한 65세 이상의 재가복지서비스 혹은 생활·의료지원을 받고 있는 고령인을 전수 조사하는 방식을 취하였다. 고령인의 가정을 직접 개별 방문하여 삶의 만족도 검사 뿐만 아니라 정신능력, 사회적 역기능, 우울 검사를 실시하였다. 2년여에 걸쳐 수집된 데이터는 PASW Statistics for Windows로 분석되었으며, 이를 통해 도출된 주요 연구결과는 세 가지로 요약해 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 고령인들의 평균 삶 만족도 점수는 13.32, 정신능력 점수는 8.50, 사회적 역기능 점수는 63.52(자아 15.56, 대인관계 14.91, 수행 33.05), 우울 점수는 16.76이었다. 둘째, 삶의 만족도는 정신 능력과는 상관이 없었으나 우울과 사회적 역기능 중 자아체계와 대인관계 체계와는 부적 상관이 있었다. 셋째, 회귀분석 결과에서는 정신 능력과 사회적 역기능 중 자아체계는 삶 만족도에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 우울과 사회적 역기능 중 대인관계는 고령인들의 삶 만족도에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 고령인들의 만족스러운 삶을 위해서 고령인들이 경험하는 우울을 경감시키고 대인관계에서 만족스러운 사회적 기능을 할 수 있도록 지원하는 방안을 모색하는 것이 요구된다. 이 연구는 장애에 관계없이 고령인들의 삶 만족도에 영향을 줄 수 있는 변인들에 대한 기본 정보를 제공하였다는데 의의를 둘 수 있다.
Abstract
All people need to satisfy their lives. This study was to investigate variables which affect satisfaction of life of the elderly aged 65 and over. A total of the 96 elders ere taken for research in an administrative district in Seoul, South Korea. Life Satisfaction Index(LSI), the Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire(SPMSQ), Social Dysfunction Rating Scale(SDRS), the Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS) have been used to evaluate the satisfaction of life, mental abilities, social dysfunction, and depression of the elderly. Results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, participants achieved 8.50 in mental abilities, 16.76 points in depression, 63.52 in social dysfunction(15.56 in self, 14.91 in social relationship, and 33.05 in performance), and 13.32 in satisfaction of life. Second, there was no positive or negative relationship between satisfaction of life and mental abilities. However, satisfaction of life is negatively related to depression and social dysfunction subareas(self and interpersonal relationship). Finally, there were no significant effects of mental abilities and social dysfunction in interpersonal relationship on satisfaction of life. However, there were significant effects of depression and social dysfunction in social relationship on satisfaction of life of the elderly. It is obvious that social dysfunction in social relationship and depression are effective factors. Therefore, in services of the elderly, maximum support must be provided to treat depression and improve social function in interpersonal relationship. This study aimed at providing the basic information on the variables related to satisfaction of life of the elderly with non-handicapped and handicapped.
