Abstract
This paper discusses some basic principles for using movies as ESL classroom instructional materials and examines a number of advantages of movies as a language teaching aid. It also argues that movies offer links between classrooms and communicative competence. In addition, this paper reflects on the nature of theory-driven CALL particularly as it relates to materials development. Development processes are described using an instructional design of as idea phase, a proposal planning phase, a development phase, a production phase and a support phase. Finally, this paper attempts to be meaningful for CALL authors by reporting a case study of multimedia production.
