The purpose of this study is to analyze the vocabulary in newspapers intended for children and make a collocation book through a corpus program. Four English newspapers published in Korea were chosen and articles were collected from them. The concordance program used was Antconc 3.2.0w. A wordlist was compiled from the corpora of the English newspapers and the patterns of high-frequency words were examined. This wordlist was compared with five other references: 736 basic elementary words presented by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, a wordlist from the BNC newspaper corpus, 2,500 defining words from the Macmillan dictionary, 2,246 defining words from the Longman dictionary, and 2,284 words from the GSL (General Service List). As a result of this comparison, 284 words were selected which correlated on all of the lists and these words were used for devising the collocation book. The main objective was to obtain authentic expressions at the sentence level from the English newspapers and to make note of remarkable collocations. The results of this study can be used to help students develop collocation knowledge and enhance their vocabulary skills in learning English.
