Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop and implement a constructivist e-learning environment in order to engage students in meaningful learning experiences with Chinese language. The design and development of the e-learning environment was made under the framework of situated learning theory. Considering the aspects of rapidly growing use of technologies in the field of foreign language education, the major research concerns of this study were: the actual usage of technologies that were developed for the situated learning oriented e-learning environment, and the instructional strategies that were employed for learning Chinese language online. The collected data were analysed into several categories of themes before the study found out educational implications on the situated learning oriented e-learning environment from a perspective of students. Overall, this study verified the potential of the integration of technologies into Chinese language teaching and learning. In addition, the study shed the light on the benefits, and challenges that students encountered when they have gone through the e-learning environment of their language learning.
