초록

This is a geological and geographical study of Yogjido conducted to activate geo-tourism. The new geological map with the geological sequence of Yogjido is produced in this study. The cretaceous volcanic sequence of this island is mainly composed of lapilli tuff, welded tuff, quartz andesite, granodiorite, in age order. The lapilli tuff is distributed in the northeast and southwest area of this island, and has various sizes and colors of rock fragment. The welded tuff is partly covered by lapilli tuff terrane in the inner part and the quartz andesite intruded into the early formed lapilli tuff and welded tuff. Almost every phenocrysts of tuff and andesite in the area are quartz and plagioclase. The acidic magma intruded into all the previous terrane and formed a coarse grained granodiorite. Fiamme in the welded tuff is black and flattened by pumice and obsidian. The silica contents of volcanic rocks range from 50wt.% to 68wt.% and correspond with the intermediate acidic igneous rock. The island has many valuable natural landscapes such as the Samyeodo sea stack and sea cave. The landscape view from Daegibong is beautiful. The island also has many interesting animal shaped rocks. For example, near the Chulryung bridge there is a pelican shape welded tuff and on the Dugdong beach a eagle shape tafoni, while in Hongok village and Saeedendongsan a tuttle like rock can be seen. This study also discovered a new man face like cliff near the Chulryung bridge. The pebble beach of Dukdong, the slide slumping structure of lapilli tuff at Yudong village, the columnar joint of Ibsuk village, and andesitic sill of Heanjagsal beach are new tourism resources in Yogjido. The island provides a good field course for both geology and geography. Thus, the Tongyoung city need to develope a new tourism project for specialized geotourism, such as developing of a new trail, a fascinating story, production and distribution of professional guide book or training of geotourism interpreter and geological research.
